Jeffrey Epstein’s townhouse sells as luxury market picks up steam

Thirty-six contracts were signed last week at over $4 million, extending the luxury market’s streak of 30 or more deals to 5 weeks in a row. The number 1 contract was for Jeffrey Epstein’s townhouse at 9 East 71st Street, which sold for $50 million. The 7-story, 50-foot-wide limestone mansion spans 28,000 SF. 

  • Encouraging Sign: In the last 11 weeks, 297 contracts were signed at over $4 million totaling over $2.5 billion in volume. The breakdown: 208 condos, 47 co-ops, 3 condops, and 39 townhouses, according to the Olshan report.
  • In Brooklyn: There were 19 contracts signed for deals over $2 million totalling $60.4 million. The deals were made up of 7 condos, 2 co-ops and 10 houses. The previous week saw 18 deals, Compass noted. [Olshan+Compass]
