Facebook and Google tell staff to stay home

  • Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that most of the company’s employees will be allowed to continue to work from home through the end of 2020. The social media company doesn’t expect to open most offices until July 6 at the earliest. Zuckerberg also noted that the company would not hold any gatherings of more than 50 people until at least July 2021, CNBC reported.
  • Google / Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai told employees on Thursday to prepare to work remotely through October and possibly to the end of the year. A spokeswoman confirmed to Bloomberg that the majority of staff is expected to work from home until 2021. Pichai told employees only about 10% to 15% of the workers would be on-site in June, with more returns varying by division and location.
