Amazon has leased a 450,000-square-foot warehouse next to its 855,000-square-foot distribution center in Staten Island, Crain’s first reported. The properties are part of the industrial hub near the Bayonne Bridge that Matrix Development Group is building on the West Shore. Furniture giant Ikea also operates a massive e-commerce fulfillment center in the complex.
- Be Smart: Amazon’s distribution center that opened in 2017 focuses on storing and sorting goods, while the new warehouse will focus on last-mile deliveries.
- Worth Noting: Amazon’s existing $100 million warehouse has received $18 million in state tax credits and employs more than 2,000 workers.
