Similar to what LEED has achieved in certifying energy efficient buildings, startup Delos is seeking to create a new standard for what they call ‘the wellness of a building’. It tests logical factors like air and light, and other more trivial ones like the size of food plates in the cafeteria (discourage overeating). Once a building is certified, the developer uses it to help market the the property to potential tenants.
Revenue model: The startup charges $20,000 for evaluating 100,000 square feet, according to Forbes. Time will tell if developers can charge tenants a premium on ‘wellness certified’ spaces.
Worth Noting: The for-profit company has raised $237 million in venture money and is valued at $800 million.
