City Council approves rezoning to revitalize the Garment District
The City Council approved the Garment District rezoning in addition to a citywide rule limiting new hotel development in industrial zones.
Garment District: The new plan lifts a 1987 zoning restriction on certain side streets that requires a building to have the same amount of manufacturing space as office space. As part of the plan, the city will offer tax breaks to landlords who set aside at least 25,000 SF for manufacturing use, according to Crain’s.
Special permit requirement for new hotels: The measure requires proposed hotels in M1-zoned areas to undergo a full public review process before obtaining a special permit, the CO reported.
