The President seemed receptive to the idea
Governor Andrew Cuomo presented President Trump with a new plan for the Gateway Tunnel project yesterday. He proposed focusing on the $13 billion rail tunnels component before funding the rest of the $30 billion project, according to Bloomberg.
Baby steps: The President and Governor agreed to get a cost estimate for tunnel construction that both parties will trust. It also appears that they will be seeking bids from private companies.
Worth Noting: The current rail tunnel that links New York and New Jersey carries 820,000 daily commuters, and is endangered by age and corrosion from Hurricane Sandy. It’s also key to Amtrak’s high-speed route for passengers between Washington and Boston.
