Will New York Senate Democrats follow through and close the LLC loophole?

A current loophole in New York’s campaign finance laws allows corporations to create LLC’s for the sole purpose of giving unlimited donations to candidates. Firms can create multiple LLC’s, which effectively erases any maximum contribution.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander: New York Senate Democrats campaigned on a promise to close the LLC loophole, but political observers view this as mere campaign talk. This year, Democratic candidates benefited greatly from the loophole. In 2018 alone, LLC’s gave Mr. Cuomo more than $1.9 million in campaign donations, according to NYTimes.
