The New York Human Rights Commission has opened an ‘investigation’ into the women-only co-working club. Although the company doesn’t comply with the law as currently written, it would be shocking if the Commission actually files a lawsuit.
What they are looking at: The city bars public businesses, including most private clubs from discriminating against customers based on gender.
The Wing told Fortune: “Anti-discrimination laws were passed to empower women, which is precisely the mission of The Wing.” It would be absurd if these laws were used to do the opposite.
Worth Noting: The Wing views this ordeal as a conversation, not a formal investigation.
