Digital marketing startup is another acquisition outside of core business

WeWork acquired digital marketing startup Conductor — this is its fifth acquisition in the past seven months, according to Recode. After raising $4.4 billion from SoftBank, these acquisitions are chump change.
Why it matters: Most of the deals have been outside of its core business of renting out work space. Founder Adam Neumann is seeking to justify the unicorn’s $20 billion valuation as a transformational tech company, not a real estate one.
Acquisitions Include: Meetup, Flatiron School, Unomy, Spacemob, Fieldlens, and Welkio. WeWork also bought a large stake in Wavegarden and also invested in The Wing.
